City Council to accept PNCU's fourth $15,000 installment for Bookmobile

City Council Tuesday night will be asked to approve an order from Mayor Richard Kos to accept a donation from Polish National Credit Union for the fourth installment of $15,000 towards the bank’s $75,000 commitment for the funding of Chicopee’s bookmobile, which is the only one in Western Massachusetts.

The bookmobile hit the road in June 2015, and will celebrate the start of its fourth year in use on June 29th.  To date, bookmobile librarians have checked out 29,811 items to nearly 25,000 customers. Over 250 children sign up annually, for the Library’s summer reading program, during bookmobile stops throughout the City.

The bookmobile operates year round and will begin its spring schedule of stops on March 1st.  During the summer months, the bookmobile makes two stops per day at different locations throughout the City. In addition to new library materials Wi-Fi access, iPads, and access to the entire CWMARS catalog, the bookmobile also offers many activities and games for all to enjoy the full experience of all that the Chicopee Public Library has to offer.

"The bookmobile completes its third successful year at the end of June, when we will be starting our expanded summer schedule for July and August,” said Library Director Nancy Contois. “We look forward to engaging many more customers, again, this summer, with our stops at local parks, the Farmer's Market and community events. We hope to continue our success with summer reading participation, and would like families to know they can participate at bookmobile stops and learn about all the free events they can attend as well, at the Chicopee Main Library, especially during the school vacation weeks and summer months."

“The bookmobile is a wonderful service in our city that we are able to provide because of the generosity of Polish National,” said Mayor Kos.

“At Polish National Credit Union, our mission is to grow lasting relationships that improve people’s lives” said Polish National President and CEO Jim Kelly. ”Part of that mission is partnering with the communities we serve, and we are committed to providing support to great projects like the Chicopee Public Library Bookmobile.”
