Law Department
The Chicopee Law Department represents the City in legal matters involving the Mayor, the Board of Aldermen, and all City departments including the Police, Fire, and School Departments. The Law Department appears before administrative bodies, tribunals, and the courts to prosecute or defend all actions involving the City. It is also responsible for all litigation to which the City is a party including housing or building code violations, real estate disputes and transactions, employment claims, and other matters that may arise. Members of the Law Department will routinely appear as counsel in any legal proceeding which may implicate the rights and interests of the City or to defend any of its officers in suits against them arising in the course of their official duties.
