City-wide Tree Inventory
In October 2012, the City of Chicopee was awarded a $23,500 grant from the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation's (DCR) Community and Urban Forestry Program to implement 'TreeChicopee' a program designed to foster community forestry within the City. As part of this program, the City has hired the Davey Resource Group to complete a comprehensive public tree inventory throughout Chicopee. Davey's Urban Foresters will collect data on all public trees (streets, medians, parks), stumps and available planting spaces existing within the public right-of-way. Inventory information will assist the City in better understanding the age and species composition of Chicopee's Urban Forest while allowing the team to quantify the benefits the Urban Forest provides. The Inventory work will be ongoing from May 29, 2013 until the end of June. Davey's team will move through the City through neighborhoods as prioritized by the TreeChicopee team as follows: - Chicopee Center - Chicopee Falls - Willimansett - Aldenville - Sandy Hook - Fairview/Westover - Burnett Road
